Telly Privacy Policy

In short: Telly has no server and no account. Your viewing history and settings are stored only in your own browser. We never see, collect, sell or share your data.

What Telly is

Telly is a free browser extension that recommends movies and shows on the streaming services you use, with a reason for each pick. It is independent and not affiliated with Netflix, Amazon or any streaming service.

Data Telly handles

Viewing history. When you click Sync, Telly reads the titles, dates and (on Netflix) watch progress from your own watch-history page on Netflix or Prime Video.
What you play. If "Learn while you watch" is on, Telly notes the title of what you play on supported streaming sites.
Your choices in Telly. Your settings, the services you selected, the profiles you marked as yours, and your reactions to picks (liked, skipped, already watched).
Optional AI key. If you choose to add your own AI provider key, it is saved in your browser.

Telly does not read passwords, payment details, messages or any other content on the pages you visit.

Where it is stored

All of the above is stored locally in your browser using the browser's extension storage. It is not uploaded to Telly or anyone else. Telly does not use analytics, tracking, advertising or cookies.

What leaves your device

Catalog download. Telly downloads a public list of titles (the catalog) from GitHub Pages each week. This request contains no personal data.
Language model download. For mood search, Telly may download a small open-source language model from Hugging Face the first time. This request contains no personal data.
Posters. Title posters load from The Movie Database (TMDB) image servers.
Optional AI feature. Only if you add your own AI key, Telly sends a short summary of your taste (for example, favourite genres and a few titles you liked) and a shortlist of candidate titles to the AI provider you picked (such as Google Gemini, Groq, OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter), directly from your browser. That provider's own privacy policy applies to those requests. You can see exactly what is sent under Settings, "What gets sent?", and remove your key at any time.

Your control

Turn off any streaming service, profile or "Learn while you watch" in Settings.
Remove a single profile and its history with the × next to it.
Export all your data, or delete everything, from Settings, "Your data".
Uninstalling Telly removes all data it stored.

Children

Telly is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
